Nach allem was ich weiß, bin ich dank dieser schmerzhaften Erfahrung nun wirklich im Eltern-Game angekommen.

Eine Kuriosität von Good Old Twitter, die mir auch noch nicht bekannt war:
TwitterPeek is a mobile device that allows users to send and receive tweets using Twitter. It is the first Twitter-only mobile device. It went on sale on November 3, 2009. Its price was set at US$100.00 and came with six months of service. The service cost $8.00 monthly, but users could also pay $200.00 upfront for lifetime service.
Zur Erinnerung: Das iPhone kam bereits 2007 auf den Markt, ein Jahr bevor die US-Firma Peek standalone Handhelds herausbrachte, mit denen man SMS und Emails empfangen und verschicken konnte. Oder mit dem TwitterPeek eben nur Tweets.
Im obigen Video sehen wir das damalige, mäßig begeisterte Review von CNET dazu und Gizmodo titelte unverblümt “The TwitterPeek is so dumb it makes my brain hurt”.

Ok, somehow I managed to get a copy of „Make Something Wonderful“ by The Steve Jobs Archive, which is currently going for $200-500 on eBay, for 86 Euros. 🥳
If you didn’t take a look already, here’s the wonderful digital version of the book, which is not available in stores, but was only given to selected Apple and Pixar employees. And here’s a detailed look by Arun Venkatesan at the physical and digital book.
Cool to have this at home now.
What if you could only use one app on your iPhone?
Shawn Blanc picks Things, my favorite to-do app. Mike Rockwell goes with my now favorite podcast player Pocket Casts.
My obvious choice would be a web browser, but I understand that’s kind of cheating. So my choice would definitely be Drafts, the mighty all-rounder among text editors. I use Drafts to store notes, formulate texts and publish (!) my blog posts, just like this one. My shopping lists are in Drafts as well as transcribed voice notes from on the go. If it were the only app on my device, my iPhone would still be pretty useful.

@fcnewsbot auf Mastodon
In Anbetracht der bevorstehenden (oder auch nicht mehr bevorstehenden) API-Veränderungen bei Twitter habe ich meinen beliebten Twitter-Bot @fcnewsbot, der Neuigkeiten rund um den 1. FC Köln postet, zu einem echten Mastodon-Bot ausgebaut. Bisher wurden lediglich die Tweets rüber syndiziert, nun werden sie zusätzlich zu Twitter auch direkt zu Mastodon gepostet. Damit ist es komplett egal, was drüben bei Elmo passiert.
Im Zuge dessen habe ich dem “FC News Bot” auch einen neuen Avatar spendiert, der weniger Copyright Infringement und mehr Unterscheidbarkeit zum regulären FC-Account bietet. Microsofts hervorragendes, aber eingestelltes Fluent 3D-Emoji-Set macht’s möglich.
Ein großer Vorteil von Bots (und generell allen Accounts) auf Mastodon ist, dass es von Haus aus RSS-Feeds mit dazu gibt. D.h. auch ohne Mastodon-Interesse und -Account lässt sich dem Bot nun auch über eay.social/ @fcnewsbot.rss komfortabel folgen.
Das Beste: Da viele Feedreader-Apps mittlerweile auch ein paar Extraumdrehungen für Mastodon machen, gibt’s da ein paar Bonus-Features. Mein Feedreader-Service Feedbin hängt z.B. an Mastodon-Posts mit Links den verlinkten Artikel als Volltext an. Das bedeutet, dass ich nur mit dem Abo des fcnewsbot-Feeds direkt alle verlinkten Artikel aus den diversen Publikationen im Volltext innerhalb meines Feedreaders Reeder lesen kann. Und Klicks sparen, ist bekanntlich das oberste aller Gebote.
