„Kids can’t use computers… And this is why it should worry you“

Marc Scott ist Informatiklehrer in England und beschreibt hier recht lesenswert, dass seine Schüler keine Ahnung mehr von Computern haben, woran das liegt und wie man das ändern kann. Dieser Praxistipp für Eltern hat’s mir besonders angetan:

When we teach kids to ride a bike, at some point we have to take the training wheels off. Here´s an idea. When they hit eleven, give them a plaintext file with ten-thousand WPA2 keys and tell them that the real one is in there somewhere. See how quickly they discover Python or Bash then.

Man kennt diese Versuchsanordnung ja: Angenommen, jemand würde dir heute 100 Euro schenken, oder in einem Jahr 200 Euro – welchen Betrag würdest du nehmen? Wer sich dann für letzteren entscheidet, ist angeblich intelligenter, dafür aber auch alles andere als spontan. Manchmal muss man einfach dem Lustprinzip erliegen und dem Es gehorchen. In obigem Video bedient man sich nun an diesen Verhaltensmustern und stellt Kinder vor die schwieriege Frage, ob sie einen Marshmallow lieber sofort oder nach kurzer Wartezeit doch eher zwei haben wollen. Und wie die Kleinen mit sich hadern, ist einfach zu niedlich…
