Die Zeit wandelt mit einem interaktiven Artikel auf den Spuren von El Pais, der mit verschiedenen Szenarien und Schiebereglern sehr gut aufzeigt, wie schnell sich das Coronavirus in Innenräumen verbreiten kann.
Kate Petrova beleuchtet derweil in einem Twitter-Thread1 eine überaus interessante Korrelation: Seit Beginn der Corona-Pandemie haben sich die Bewertungen für Duftkerzen verschlechtert. Die Rezensenten wussten zum Zeitpunkt ihrer Bewertung scheinbar (noch) nichts von ihrer Corona-Infektion, die bekanntlich oftmals mit dem temporären Verlust des Geruchssinns einhergeht, und haben fälschlicherweise gedacht, dass sie nutzlose Duftkerzen ohne Duft bekommen hätten. Und noch ein Zeit-Artikel: In „Der Erste seiner Art“ wird beschrieben, was es mit dem neuen mRNA-Impfstoff auf sich hat und warum die Entwicklung und Zulassung diesmal so schnell geht (Spoiler: Vorwissen durch SARS-CoV-1, mehr öffentliches Interesse und damit schnellere Prüfungen und mehr Finanzmittel).

Curiosity’s 1.8-Billion-Pixel Panorama of Mars

NASA’s Curiosity rover captured its highest-resolution panorama yet of the Martian surface between Nov. 24 and Dec. 1, 2019. A version without the rover contains nearly 1.8 billion pixels; a version with the rover contains nearly 650 million pixels. Both versions are composed of more than 1,000 images that were carefully assembled over the following months.

Planetologe James O’Donoghue hat sich angesehen, wie akurat die verschiedenen Hersteller den Saturn mit ihren „Planet mit Ringen“-Emojis abbilden.
Woraufhin sich der Physiklehrer Christopher Becke angesehen hat, wie es um den Mond in den Emoji-Sets von Apple, Android & Co. bestellt ist.

So sieht übrigens die Oberfläche der Sonne aus, erstmals so aufgenommen vom Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope. Jede der „Zellen“ ist dabei so groß wie Texas. Das Video zeigt einen Zeitraffer von 10 Minuten Sonnenaktivität. Hier gibt es weitere Bilder und Erklärungen. (via Kottke)
