Porsche by VW

Last week Volkswagen announced they are more closely linking the parent brand with the Porsche and Audi badges. The iconic sports and luxury brands would now be „Porsche by VW“ and „Audi by VW.“

Great essay by Scott Galloway about Facebook’s renaming of WhatsApp and Instagram, which he calls „one of the dumbest moves in the history of marketing“.

Free investment tips included:

People often ask me what stocks I own. Simple: the only investment strategy anybody needs is to own unregulated monopolies. I own Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Nike. Ok, Nike isn’t a monopoly […].

Today it’s been 100 days since the release of Yonks! Thanks to everybody who downloaded my day counter app and spread the word about it. What a nice little thrill ride so far! 🎉

„Congratulations! We’re pleased to let you know that your app, Yonks, has been approved for the App Store.“ 🎉

(It’s not released yet. This will take a couple of more days to finish the website, press material and so on. But, yeah, it’s almost done! 💪🏻)

Tweetbot 5 is such a nice app. A shame it’s based on and build for a platform, whose management doesn’t value and encourage a rich ecosystem of third party clients and instead pushes a „one size fits all“ approach for millions (!) of users, just because they don’t understand their own product (which could have been the centralized real time layer of the web) and how to monetize it.

In the long-term their missing understanding will turn out to be a good thing, because it forced us relatively early to create truly open and independent microblogging alternatives, which will replace their privately owned predecessor sooner rather than later.

»The Dark Age / Modern Age of DC Comics« got CANCELLED

Bad news for everyone who enjoyed the »Age of DC Comics« series by TASCHEN and is desperately waiting for the last two issues, »The Dark Age of DC Comics« and »The Modern Age of DC Comics«, of the five-issue series to be released: It got cancelled, TASCHEN told me after asking about the release date for the remaining two books. The decision was made by the publisher’s management and editors and sadly affects both the english and internationals editions.

That’s a real shame because the first three issues we’re really outstanding books. Instead of covering 75 years of DC Comics it’s now concluded after only 45 years with DC’s Bronze Age. But because the whole series is a re-issue of Paul Levitz’s mammoth compilation »75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking« the only way to get the missing 30 years, is to get the giant book, which sells for about $150 for the English edition on Amazon.com or 150€ for the German edition on Amazon.de (which I just ordered).
