Full of Themselves: An analysis of title drops in movies
A title drop is when a character in a movie says the title of the movie they’re in. Here’s a large-scale analysis of 73,921 movies from the last 80 years on how often, when and maybe even why that happens.
A single-serving site featuring this interesting analysis and dataset by Dominik Baur and Alice Thudt. (via Waxy)
New »Jurassic World« movie in the works at Universal
[Universal Pictures] deep into the development of an all-new Jurassic World movie and has David Koepp back at the keyboard. Koepp was the writer of the original 1993 Jurassic Park, famously directed by Steven Spielberg, and its sequel, 1997’s Jurassic Park: The Lost World.
I did two and I just felt like I used up all my good ideas […].“).
Jurassic Park, but all the characters are dinosaurs
Great work by u/cfryant.
Are movies actually getting longer?
I’m all too familiar with the feeling that movies are getting longer and longer. Especially now with a toddler, we prefer shorter movies, but they’re not even that easy to find these days.
To get to the bottom of this anecdotal evidence, Matt has pulled the top 50 of each decade – from the 1970s to 2020s – from Letterbox and analyzed the playing time of the films.
The result: Yes, they are getting longer. Not by much on average, but overall there are significantly more films over two hours long nowadays.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
»Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3« punktet abermals mit Skurrilität, Witz und Herz. Die Großartigkeit des ersten Teils bleibt natürlich unerreicht und das hier ist im positiven wie im negativen Sinne „more of the same“. Aber dennoch ein gelungener Abschluss der James-Gunn-Trilogie.
The Peculiar Pandora Expedition – AI-Trailer für Wes Anderson’s Avatar
