James Moylan, der nun mit 80 Jahren verstorben ist, hat sich diesen überaus hilfreichen Indikator 1986 bei Ford ausgedacht, als er mit einem Auto aus Fords Fahrzeug-Pool zu einem Meeting gefahren ist und beim Tanken im Regen auf der falschen Seite geparkt hat. Der 1989er Ford Escort und Mecury Tracer waren die ersten Autos mit „Moylan Arrow“, danach hat er sich – wie und wann ist nicht ganz klar – in der gesamten Automobilindustrie durchgesetzt.
